I found my notebook with this poem in it today. A couple of months ago I went to a poetry writing workshop. We had to create poems that somehow embodied the word form. I’ve never been much of a form poetry girl so I just had fun with the idea. I invented a word called conformitivity which I think should exist but doesn’t. Conformitivity means the practice of willfully conforming.

Freedom finds wannabe artist
desiring self liberation, unbound
by raised pinky
drinking entire proffered tea cup
in one gulp instead of taking
polite sips as programmed
by year’s spent training
in the gentlemanly arts.
