Two friends of Jesus decide it is time to come out to acknowledge their discipleship. See John 19:38-42.
After Jesus was crucified on a cross and died,
Joseph of Arimathea–a secret disciple, publicly cried.
In spite of his fear of the Jewish leaders, he came out.
By asking Pilate to let him take away the body of Jesus.
His discipleship was publicly revealed without a doubt.
Pilate, who had failed Jesus, granted Joseph permission.
So Joe, along with a friend, came and took away His body.
Nicodemus, Joe’s friend, was a Jewish leader,
Who respected Jesus, and who desired to understand Him,
He had first come to talk secretly with Jesus by night.
The record of his visit gives awesome spiritual insight,
From Jesus response to Nick’s heavy load of questions.
With this new visit He came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes.
They took Jesus body and bound it in linen cloths and spices,
The customary way to prepare the burial of family and heroes.
Now there was a garden near the place where He was crucified,
And a tomb, in which there had never been anyone who had died.
Out of respect for the Jewish day of Preparation,
They decided not to travel on this sacred day of Separation.
And since the tomb, made available, near by would suffice,
They prepared the body for burial with white linens and spice.
And they laid His body in the new tomb in the garden yard,
Followed by Pilate’s soldiers sealing it and setting a guard.
