Two major dynasties of the Islamic world.
Compare and contrast the Umayyad and Abbasid dynasties of the Islamic empire.
There are many similarities and differences between Umayyad and Abbasid dynasties that
include religion, science &technology and problems with succession. Two major Islamic
dynasties that played a major role in Arab world are Umayyad and Abbasid dynasties. Both
dynasties had problems with succession, Abbasids were more intellectual in science and
technology than Umayyad, Both believed in one religion called Islam (monotheistic).
Umayyad‘s were less advanced in science and technology because they focused more on having
concubines they were in competition with others and the reason for having more concubines
because they make them rich and this made them careless on the society and lead to problems.
They were looking for their own good, where as Abbasid were more advanced in science and
technology than Umayyad’s because Abbasid brought a new variety of mathematical concepts
and theories such as Arab numerals and Geometric theories form the ancient Greek, and they
also discovered the fundamentals of chemistry. Abbasids were also advanced in machinery and
maps. This gave them wealth and also made them rich. Therefore we can assume that since
Abbasid’s are more advanced in science they continue to accelerate and make profits, and
make their dynasty strong and powerful. Whereas Umayyad’s are less science they weaken
their dynasty by having more concubines.
