MISCARRIAGE & BIRTH DEATH

Miscarriage (Spontaneous Abortion) is a fetal loss due to natural causes before the pregnancy reaches 20 weeks. The Birth of Death (Stillbirth) is the loss of the fetus because of natural causes during pregnancy reaches more than 20 weeks.
A baby born at any gestational age and direct spontaneous breathing or heart beat, said to be born alive. If then the baby dies, it is said to be the death of the newborn (neonatal deaths).

Approximately 20-30% of pregnant women experience bleeding or cramping at least 1 time during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Approximately half of causing a miscarriage.

About 85% of miscarriages occur in the first trimester and is usually caused by abnormalities in the fetus. 15%, occurred at weeks 13-20; duapertiganya occur due to abnormalities in the mother and the third cause is unknown.

Prior to the occurrence of miscarriage, pregnant women usually experience spotting (bleeding spots) and vaginal discharge or bleeding from the vagina. Her uterus to contract, causing cramps. In case of miscarriage, the bleeding, vaginal discharge and cramps become more severe. In the end, some or all of the contents of the uterus will come out.

At the early stage miscarriage, with an ultrasound can determine whether the baby is still alive. After a miscarriage, ultrasound and other tests used to see whether all the contents of the uterus has been out.

If the entire contents of the uterus has been out, so no need for treatment. If only part of the contents of the uterus that comes out, then performed to clean the uterine curettage.

If the fetus has died but remains in the uterus (missed abortion), then the fetus and placenta must be removed by curettage. For missed abortion an advanced stage, can be used a drug that causes uterine contractions so that removing the contents of the uterus (eg oxytocin).

If bleeding and cramping occurs at 20 weeks (the threat of abortion), then it is advisable to undergo bed rest. The woman should not work and should not be having sex. Not given hormones because almost always ineffective and can cause birth defects, especially on the heart or reproductive organs.

The threat of abortion can occur if the neck of the womb (cervix) to open too early due to weakness in the fibrous tissue. Sometimes the cervical opening can be closed surgically with suturing, which will be dibukan shortly before delivery.

Septic abortion is a very serious infection. The contents of the uterus should be immediately removed and the infection should be treated with high doses of antibiotics.

Ectopic Pregnancy

Ectopic Pregnancy (Pregnancy Beyond Content) is a pregnancy where the fetus develops outside the uterus, which is in the Fallopian tubes (fallopian tubes), the cervical canal (cervical canal), pelvic or abdominal cavity.

Under normal circumstances, an egg is released from one ovary (ovarian) and into the fallopian tubes. In the tube, with the encouragement of vibrating hairs lining the tube, within a few days, the egg will reach the uterus. Usually the egg is fertilized in the Fallopian tubes, but embedded in the uterus.

If the tube is blocked (eg due to infection), then the eggs will be moving slowly or stuck. Fertilized egg cell that has never reached the uterus and there was an ectopic pregnancy.

The risk of ectopic pregnancy is increased in:
- Abnormalities of the fallopian tubes
- Previously ever had an ectopic pregnancy
- The use of DES (diethylstilbestrol)
- Failure of tubal ligation (sterilization procedure, which made the binding or cutting the tube).
