Here is a poem written sometime 2007 after watching a documentary, which featured a blog of an unnamed woman where she tried to recount her horrible story of being raped by her own kin when she was still young–a personal attempt to capture what was told in the online journal/written article to the documentary/moving picture and now to a poem/spoken word form.
She hated herself
For being a conspirator
To the rape of her own
She felt anger
For the reek that seeps
Through her nostrils
She remembers still
She screamed
Against the thrusting penis
She screamed
Just to let out the catharsis
She screamed
She screamed
She screamed louder and louder
For screaming is her only option
Because her mind is disturbed
By uninvited guests
Who gave her a gift
Guilt guised as a gift
Guilt since she accepted it
She screamed
And her eyes are shut tight
She screamed
For she could not see in blur
As tears roll down her face
She screamed
With all her energy trying to resist
She screamed
Until she could bear no longer
Bear a child no more
She hated herself
For being a conspirator
To the rape of her own
She felt anger
For the reek that seeps
Through her nostrils
While after all these years
She has forgiven
She will never forget.
