A love poem about mistakes made and lessons learned.

I saw your smile

The perfect way your mouth crinkled at the corners

The way you made me want you

How I wish things were not this mess of emotions

And

I lie here bleeding

Listening to the pulse of my heart

Wondering why this has to hurt

I lie here

Alone, once again out on my own

And

I realize I never listened to your heart

Hear your pain

Your worries

I see now what I’m not to do

And

I pick myself off the ground

Refuse to let myself melt away in summer air

I will pledge myself to you

Banish my insecurities and immaturities

And know that I am yours

And

Love is complicated,

I know that now

I wish I had realized it when I had the chance

To prevent the pain that we both felt

But now I can fix what was broken

Mend your heart

And stitch my own back together

Because if true love conquers all

Then I know that you have conquered me
