This is a poem I recently wrote about beating my addiction to self injury. That was a while ago, but it felt time to share some thoughts about it.

You were like a sugar rush,
I always got a high
Let me fly for a little while,
Then I would always crash
My heart would race,
In my head I could hear it beat
I swore it was something I needed
It would take me right off my feet
I never realized it was an addiction
It was my nicotine
Daily I would get the craving
and feed the monster so dark and mean
One day I finally saw the beast
and felt ready to defeat
It took a long time to conquer the battle
but the addiction I finally beat
