Would it be nice

If scientists could control

The uncontrollable

Like aging

And natural disasters?

Such feats would have

Tremendous effects

On the cycle of life

And some would 

Accuse them

Of playing God

Where will they draw

The line in the aging process?

Will it be at 21

Or just allow

People to live

Long healthy lives

Through medical intervention?

What if we were

All to be centurions

Like the oldest

Will there be a place

For all of us old people?

What if scientists

Could control the weather?

Affecting  crops

And the food supply

Around the world

Some animals

Like polar bears would

Not be happy

If we tamper

With the snow

In the Arctic

Hurricanes would be

Something of the past

So would high winds

And gushing snow storms

That wreck havoc

What would be the fall out

From volcanoes

When they spew

Black ash and gases

High into the air?

Are they manageable?

Would scientists be able

To clamp down on smog

That’s terrifying

Cities like Beijing?

So far we’re unable

To control mother nature

The most we could do

Is to make predictions

And let nature 

Take its course

Scientists have 

Relied on chemicals

To boost our food supply

And have suggested ways

By which we could 

Pollute less

As far as controlling 

The uncontrollable 

That would always be

A challenge

If it’s not one thing

It’s another

Often when we think

We’ve solved a problem

Another arises

We often conclude

Our solution is better
