Who is your lucky penny?

I have always been your proverbial cinnamon penny

Not worth much, but I still shine and spend only for you

I fear in your silk purse of coins I am frankly one of many

Still I would like to believe that it simply is not true

For a tickle, there is something that strikes me as funny

Although the idea of it leaves me dejected and blue

If I told you I knew of your poor conduct and misbehavior

Would you claim my words were meant to batter or bruise?

Because I have always been your personal copper penny

Not worth much, but I willingly give you a penny’s luck

If I could I would love to venture elsewhere

But in the corners of your purse lining I always seem to be

seductively…stuck

So will the penny stick around regardless?

  • Jerry Bradford aka Jerry Atrixx on Oct 13, 2010

Soon pennies will be taken out of circulation as our economy continues to inflate.

Real pennies, not the copper plated tin versions are now worth more by weight than they are per denominational designation.

Save your pennies and melt them down and cash out. :=)

In regards to me as a penny, this may have been true during some point in my life, but it isn’t true now. I am single and unencumbered by choice.

I just love the poem. It is so romantic and charming. Good write. And thank you for sharing.

Awww, thank you Adrn! When one loves hard enough, it isn’t a matter of of right of refusal anymore. Sometimes the love is permanent and you have to try and live with a part of your heart no longer being yours whether the recipient wants the gift or not.

    You cannot take it back.

Greatly written! Some people enjoy being ‘pennies’, even though they fully realize their role in somebody’s life.. It’s an addiction to another person one cannot so easily rip off. You brought up a very interesting subject here, and I especially like the words: ‘If I told you I knew of your poor conduct and misbehavior

Would you claim my words were meant to batter or bruise?’
Which means, the author perfectly understands that if he/she opens the mouth, this unsteady relationship might be totally shattered. This is my understanding, at least :)

This is at least in part fiction Jessie.

This piece isn\\\’t talking about addiction, or low self esteem; although they are worthy topics to tackle. Co-dependency is a topic that I love to discuss but this poem isn\\\’t about co-dependency either.

Some things are, especially when fictionally portrayed, for the most part simply face value creative writing.

    Thanks for commenting.
