I’ve been writing online for more than two years, now. Little did I suspect the topics that would be most successful would be drawn from my most impoverished years.
That crazy orange Tam I used to wear
Back in the days when my hair was brown,
The red, white and blue bunny I crocheted
For my oldest son when he was two,
The funky print bell-bottom that I loved
The skirts made shorter than my mother knew.

Little did I know when I had time to sew
These would all become material I could write.
I’ve made patterns for children’s clothes
And cut down garments of my own.
Making do in those miserable years
When money I Simply hadn’t any.

All these things hidden in the attic
Of my cluttered head cobwebbed with memory
Come to my mind and to my fingers,
Shared in a medium of which I didn’t dream
Back when I crocheted orange Tam O’Shanters
And Easter bunnies with a patriotic theme.
