I started this poem one way and it turned around on me.

Creepy Red Haired Kid
19 May 09

We kids believed the house
At the end of our street
Just had to be haunted
Thus we did not intreet

Then one cool summer day
Movers came and worked all day
We puzzled at who would move in there
Watching for clues that day

That evening clouds filled the sky
It was dark early that day
The breeze turned so chilly
We went inside to stay

From my window I could see
The old black car as it came to that house
I watched intently for who would get out
Mother and daughter went into that house

Their hair was like fire
So easy to see after dark
The pale skinned girl turned
Like she could see me in the dark

She smiled a hungry grin
That coldly excited me
I held my breath deeply
As I watched them go in

No rain came that night
And it was dark cloudy all next day
I went out curious
On porch swing she did sway

I felt I should hide
But she stood up and called me
I froze where I stood
Unwilling to go see

Then she tilted her head
And flipped her long red hair
She was like fire
Under a spell I went over there

I was so scared
I was so excited
She asked my name
But my tongue was now blighted

Her name was Nelera
And I should call her Nell
She said they were from Russia
And did not speak english well

But she sure could
Talk and talk and talk
I didn’t care as her
Green eyes watched me like a hawk

She could not come out
On sunny days
For it would aflict her skin
In such terrible ways

So through that summer
We became best friends
Playing outside after dark
Till parents called us in

Playing chase and riding bikes
Catching frogs were a delight
Watching TV on the porch
That house lost its fright

There is always one house
Where all the kids gathered
That was Nell’s place
Because of a creepy rumor, how absurd
