Crows rise in large numbers from their roost at dawn to circle and wheel above the city.
It is nearly dawn
We will greet the sun in a quarter hour
I have been watching as the sky has brightened
From that dull gray that glows above the city lights
And now here come the crows
From their nighttime roosts they rise in hundreds
I saw an artist’s concept once of pterosaurs in an ancient sky
From afar, these crows look much the same
Black as black can be, these crows
Large birds with large wings and stocky body
Where are they going, the flock wheels to a new direction
They will settle soon enough, clutter up the ground
