The following poem is from a collection of 41 written by me to try describing Huntington’s Disease (HD).
In the 2007 film “The Bucket List” two terminally ill men go on a road trip to do the things they want to do before they “kick the bucket”. Whilst learning you have the HD gene is never an easy thing to cope with… sometimes being faced with an early end makes you want to appreciate the here and now more.
The Bucket List
He’s just heard he is “HD Positive”,
Sat now in a bar.
His mate’s rushed over for support,
His mate has travelled far.
It’s closing time, his mate’s in tow,
To make sure he’s alright.
Both back at flat, the cans come out,
They put the world to right.
The conversation turns to death,
But not an ounce of sorrow.
They’re making lists of what to do,
They’ll start first thing tomorrow.
Places to go, and things to do,
So grateful to his friend.
Joint ‘Bucket List’ to be fulfilled,
Together til the end.
