The following poem is from a collection of 41 written by me to try describing Huntington’s Disease (HD).

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is now a relatively well known illness. It can form a big part of HD and can be infuriating when there is no rational explanation for why things are done and the world seems to revolve around trivial things.

However, challenging makes life distressing for the sufferer and, from my own personal experience, sometimes it is best not to question…just accept.

The OCD Plea

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder,

Just another symptom we get.

The rituals we need, within our lives,

Particular needs to be met.

My partner just don’t understand it,

She thinks that I’m being a pain.

Doesn’t she care, that by placing that there,

I must start this all over again?

The socks go on after the trousers,

The shirt goes on after the shoes.

It’s not like she’ll die, if she doesn’t know why,

This particular order I use.

So why does she still go on moaning?

It’s not her who has this HD.

The rituals are my way of coping,

So why can’t she just let me be?

I wrote this one trying to look at things from my Hubby’s standpoint. He is obsessed with so many things… from having a clock placed in the same spot in the bathroom each day (it needs to be taken off the bedrom wall first) to having a drink at EXACTLY 9pm each night. Even if I out the beaker to his lips oone second early he goes ape. End of day I think ‘what the heck…

    Note to Authspot/ Triond.

Sometimes when editing submissions before posting on this site assumptions are made about the use of grammar.

The heading should have been kept as OCD rather than changed to Ocd.

    Thank you

Working for a boss with no sense of humour must be tough Trish – you have my deepest sympathy. I bet somewhere in that poor brain he’s trying to help you. Such a cursed disease.

Thanks Oldster. I think that’s why I stick with the boss. I know he’ sad he makes me sad at times.

Not sure if this link will work but just to demonstrate I’m not making half this stuff up to get a reaction…

This is one of the latest threads on the Message Board I refer to when doing research/inspiration for my poems and artcles given I try to look at HD from many sides, not just my own.
