The following poem is from a collection of 41 written by me to try describing Huntington’s Disease (HD).

This poem was written as one of three for the Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) who were presenting at an international conference on HD. The focus of the talk was the quality of life for families with HD. Without such organisations, funded by charity and to whom all proceeds of my work are donated, many of us out there would go under!

The Ripple Effect

When the HD pebble is thrown,

It doesn’t gently fall.

Your whole gene pool feels ripples,

 The hardships shared by all.

With its linear path of destruction,

The chance of escaping is poor;

Even if not directly, it’s passed on to you,

You’re still likely a victim for sure!

But that doesn’t mean it is reflected,

That the family’s needs are all met;

There is some hope for all those affected,

Although there’s a way to go yet.

And with this in mind thanks must be given,

To those who are paving the way,

To improve quality, for the whole family;

The societies like HDA.
