In life we are quick to make a wish, but have we looked at the consequences. King Midas did not and was forced to renounce his wish about wanting everything he touched turn into gold.

Be careful

What you wish for

You just might get it

Then regret it

- – -

Do you want

To be wealthy

Having all the money

In the world

- – -

You figure

That money would

Be able to buy

Everything

- – -

Money

Could make every wish

Come through

Like having the best

Health care, goods

And services

- – -

This will be like

King Midas

When Dionysus

A Greek god of fertility

Granted his heart’s desire

- – -

He wished

That everything

He touched

Be turned into gold

Hence the phrase

“The Midas Touch”

- – -

The only problem was

When he tried eating

His meal became gold

As he attempted to drink

His drink turned

Solid gold

- – -

He tried to wash

In the River Pactolus

That became gold

- – -

Seeing his predicament

And starving

Midas beseeched Dionysus

To remove his wish

Which had become a curse

- – -

“All that glitters is not gold”

And “be careful for what you ask”

You may regret it

For the rest of your life

- – -

You may not be as lucky

As Midas

That had his wish

Lifted by an understanding

Dionysus

Great! Fantastic! I did not know Midas had his water and food turn to gold when he went to comsumer them. I also did not know who gave it to him. I thought Midas was born turning everything to gold. Thanks for giving me a lesson besides a great poem!

Very true indeed! Well expressed. It is dangerous to have all wishes come true!

  • Muzammil196 on Oct 27, 2011

Yes indeed, we must be careful in our life but it is not like reality that your such wishes are going to come true. :P

Exactly – be careful what you wish for. King Midas’s story is one of the most teching ancient stories that perfectly applies these days, too.
