Bear down, Chicago Bears.

Image via Wikipedia

Sandburg’s “stormy, husky, brawling

City of the Big Shoulders”

needed a special football team

to live up to such a claim

that is why God created the Bears.

Called the Monsters of the Midway,

for almost a century, the Bears

have been terrorizing gridirons,

bearing down on opponents,

mauling their way to victory.

With its share of legends from

“Papa Bear” Halas, Red Grange,

and Bronco Nagurski

to Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus, and Walter

they’ve all been proud to be a Chicago Bear.

Although they’ve been hibernating of late

Da Bears will soon awake growling

and be back again one day-

a formidable football juggernaut

those Monsters of the Midway.

You certainly captured the enthusiasm of a football fan, I feel like that about our local football(soccer) team here – fun poem.
