A blues poem addressing the love I have for the people that helped me in my depression. I thought of it as a collective love poem, rather than one addressed to a single recipient.

The pain dam bursts internally,
Hurt gushes forth eternally,
Darkness then engulfs your mind,
Blackened thoughts in which you find,
A comfort, to broken hearts
You introvert, the hatred starts,
You hate them all, friend and foe,
They try to help you let it go,
But you deny them, send them away,
Your hate-filled mind is here to stay.
You dwell and dwell, dwell some more,
Yell obscenities- You fuckin’ whore!
Hate grows old but you persevere,
To a point where your life is controlled by fear,
So you mellow, you calm it down,
You start to smile where you used to frown,
Stop trying to hate and start to heal,
Relearn emotion that you used to feel,
Bounce back from the devastion,
That still hurts on occasion,
But in your corner sit your friends,
There for you while your heart mends,
So thank you friends, for being there,
Caring for me when I didn’t care,
And when you feel you’ll never love again,
Know that I’ll be there for you then,
Building you up, helping you mend,
Because we’re friends, friends till the end.
