Time has come to make a change…

We’ve lived carelessly,

Misguided and unaccountable lives

Nature has called war upon us

Now we may pay painfully

Natural disasters strike with a wicked  vengeance

Tornadoes crippling whole communities

And floods and fires, sweeping away,

Even the grandest of homes

Amidst the cold, black wake of day

Poverty rises like the tides of Hurricanes

Employment descends at an astronomical rate

Among neighbors, lies disunity
And people turn on each other

With a profound hate

Banks seize and usurp property

Taxes squandered and health-care

Takes a turn for the worse

Treachery is afoot, be warned, beware

Boundaries parted and left broken

Blows run wild

Tearing flesh from flesh

And words strike cords

From human lips, reviled

The earth lies laboring, on its deathbed

And we lay blame

Overusing and exhausting

Greed, our true claim to fame

Our very existence

Slumbers precariously, in limbo

While we’ve foolishly

Thrown caution to the wind!

Extinction is near

Mankind lingers, grudgingly,

Between wars

God help us all

The end, we fear, may already be here

We seek a spiritual guidance

For redemption

Within our own hearts

Only then, shall we claim victory

And salvation

Togetherness, defines unity, peace

A new found sense of life

Forgiveness

And the end of world strife

We bear the burden

And therefore,

We shall travel the distance

And consummate a new and better earth

I agree things get kinda rough at times, but I can’t make myself the sky is falling. The Bible says the world will never end. I think it’s just changing, like it always has.

    Great piece..

  • stryka66 on Dec 27, 2009

An incredibly dark & foreboding piece, Debra – but so reminds me of Jesus’ words:”Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near”.

  • revivor on Dec 27, 2009

dark and critical, but much needed, in our world that has badly gone astray

  • Mila Marcos on Dec 27, 2009

An incredibly beautiful poem Debra:) Mother Earth – I’m not a tree hugging hippy but I think most people are developing a global conscience. Australia is one of a few countries in the developed world to have rainforests – this reminded me of that:)

A compelling and passionate train of thoughts to describe our present ordeals in the modern world. Definitely a masterpiece, Debra.

  • XXElleXX on Dec 27, 2009

An expressive piece of thoughts and concerns Deb :-) ..of how human beings should and shouldn’t function in the world and visions of how the world should ideally be. Both religious and philosophic.. sinister forces are always waiting to strike..everything that happens to the protagonist in this grim universe is full of incredible irony..this profound piece of poetry however, brings solace in the present..exquisite Debra :-)

  • miraj on Dec 27, 2009

I loved the way how the poem shifted from pessimism to optimism.
one that carried an element of hope amidst all this ungodly gloom.
    a profound write Debra.

This is such a powerful piece, Debra. One we should all take notice of and try to do something about. It really brings home the damage we are doing to our world. Well done.

You are describing the world as a mirror, lift up our voices to stop Armageddon and Lord Jesus comes to his kingdom.Well done Debra.

  • T.Rex McGoogle on Dec 27, 2009

Beautiful poem. But God made us what we are and knows what we can be. I cannot believe he made us only for the purpose of
punishment. I’m optimistic we will use our best wisdom that is planted in our heads and that we will come out of this and make a better world without having to die a thousand times to get there

  • Ruby Hawk on Dec 27, 2009

Well done, people in every age have thought the same thoughts. There is nothing new under the sun.

Nice write Debra. We should all be concerned because the writings in the book of Revelations confirms these statements you made in this piece. The book of Revelation is a road map to the end of the world that is rapidly approaching. Well done friend.
