A woeful tale of pain and lack of sleep. One I’m sure many can relate to.

Image via Wikipedia

I dance with pain tonight.

My relentless foe is back.

Each move, a scream of icy knives,

as dreamless sleep I lack.

            *

It’s a familiar cotillion.

I’ve been coming here for years.

Instead of diamonds and roses,

my adornment tonight is my tears.

            *

The hot ache of painful muscles:

The cold steel of pain in my bones.

I plead for him to stop twisting me about so,

but on deaf ears falls my sad, pitiful tones.

            *

The medicine has been taken and

the hot shower has been done, too.

Now I wait for oblivion to take me,

so my dance partner will fade away too.

I hear your cries for relief and feel your pain in my head. And knowing there is nothing I can do to comfort you. I know at this moment my touch will only increase your pain, so I lay here motionless in my on pain, praying that you will soon sleep and if only for a moment the pain for you will sleep as well…

Cannot add any more than dmonty. Regarding the writing style, clever imagery – I hope you find the writing cathartic.

Yes, I’m sure many, besides myself, can relate, to both the pain and the results that come from the lack of sleep as well. Thanks for sharing.

Hope you’re feeling better, Peg. I do like the way you’ve turned this pain into a dance partner here.

Pain I could feel in the true depth of your writting.
