An ode to the reckless.
threw order to the wind
who took it for a sweeping dance
though I can’t exactly say for sure
whether either party enjoyed it
slid down the rabbit hole a bit later
was feeling quite stumble-esque today
and it’s a word because I’ve declared it so
and after that
i took my feet for a race
down a pitch black hall
with a chilling uncertainty
just for the stomach-jilting joy
of not being able to predict
what obstacles
could crawl beneath
and snare them
when i finished
i sat at a grand table
and i propped them
my beloved
madcap
slightly foolhardy
feet
up in front of me
filling those shiny, cherry red shoes
they poke like curious, scarlet-beaked birds
from beneath
frayed, rough-and-tumble hems
that have been drug through
countless adventures
day to day
spontaneous winged graces
fleeting and playful
flick
tiny tufts of air
in my eyes
with their miniature wings
i pull my arms in front
weave them one through the other
and I take you in
your buttoned-tight words
send me roundabout reminders
of every daft whim
i was ever so fortunate
to never second guess
and true
they may never find themselves
justified
but i must say
they’re the makings of a damn good story
