A poem about the city of Darwin in the top end of Australia, the land down under.

It’s a place of splendour,

The reason for this topic,

My heart I tender,

To a place in the tropics.

The sun starting to rise,

Far from the blizzards,

It’s a warm paradise,

With plenty of lizards.

There are lizards between rocks,

Big fish and stingers,

Its home to the crocs,

Where a memory lingers.

There are markets in the streets,

With great foods to savour,

With many choices for treats,

An international flavour.

The locals are friendly,

To sit with and chat,

They treat you so gently,

If you take down your hat.

The night life is hot,

In more ways than one,

With places to spot,

To come have some fun.

Then there’s the lagoon,

The pools and the parks,

The biggest full moon,

When into the dark.

There are dingos around,

And when walking through,

You might hear the sound,

Of a didgeridoo.

There are bats in the air,

And in between the logs,

There are snakes that scare,

And eat up the frogs.

There are places to go fishing,

And there are places to roam,

That’s why I’m wishing,

This was my home.

This place of thunder,

I speak from the mouth,

Is the place down under,

The land of the south.

Australia’s the place,

And you’ll be taking your course,

To cut to the chase,

A city up north.

Darwin is the name,

With geckos galore,

The wild and the tame,

Surprises in store.

If you can stand the weather,

You’ll make some good mates,

Going out together,

In groups or on dates.

The best season is dry,

With no rain about,

So come give it a try,

So you can find out!
