About waking to a new day in the midst of winter’s cold chill.

The sun is shining, the earth is frozen
Covered with ice,
an unrelenting, paralyzing cold.
Another day, stark and bare
I feel empty and cold,
like icicles treelike hold.
I make my way, into this new day,
apprehensive, yet willing to bend
as winter’s stark stare warms
to the sun’s subtle glow.
My heart melts and warms,
as the ice glistens and shines
I see the day’s possibility
in a thought, and a sigh.
Alive, awake, my heart beats,
my spirit lifts;
and, I smile a smile
that warms the earth,
and melts through the ice, snow, and cold
Day break is upon me
I rise to the beauty and challenge
of this frosty new day.
