The life of a shift worker.

Day into night.

Night into day.

For a twelve hour night shift.

I must sleep the day away.

Ear plugs tightly sealed.

To keep the noises out.

Of those who are wake.

Many up and about.

Sleep mask over my eyes

To seal out all the bright.

I doze inside a tunnel.

Deprived of all the light.

Night into day.

Day into night.

Such is the life.

Of those who work nights.

It must be so difficult to work at night. I would never be able to sleep in the day. A very well expressed poem.

I can sleep easily in the day, but I don’t think I would enjoy working at night. Nice work here, Pam

Don’t I know it. It’s really hard to keep out all the daytime noises, then can’t you just almost lie down on the hard floor and sleep about 4 o’clock in the morning?

Pam, I used to work the night shift. You get used to it but it’s hard staying awake all night. Love your poem.

Having just spent two weeks in hospital, part of it in intensive care, I have great respect for those who work at night, especially nurses and their assistants. I felt it hard to imagine that anyone could be so kind and compassate at 6 AM after working 7 the evening before. Your poem is beautiful.
