Fantasy poem about a narrator riding a sea horse up through the heavens in the day. Seeing the moon, then returning to earth, as the moon metomorphs back to gold.
First dawn, still – earth blue-gray haze
I walk on golden sand beside the sea,
barefoot; a breeze billows my skirt…
Mist rises, cools my brow – soothes my soul.
A horse of the sea calls me to hop astride,
we soar out atop the depths, then we rest,
joining a white crescent moon in its sleep
after a long night of reflection, golden
glow on sand and sea.
Lulled by a lunar lullaby,
we rest on the breast of the tides.
As dusk comes, we soar back to shore.
I return to my one-time world,
the moon returns to the heavens,
metamorphosing back to gold.
