Bipolar disorder patients suffer from episodes of depression and mania or hypomania. This put them in a state where they loose days at a time, and sometimes can not remember if it is day or night. A lack of sleep makes this even worse. This is a poem of my personal account of mania, and its effect.

There was this day without a night

and a night without a day…

It happened somewhere in my life,

more often than I would say.

This endless night and day

would make me end up and pray,

because when night turned day again,

and day night, all seemed so lost.

Even in the warmth, still frost.

Each time it takes so long to shake it off.

Just want to crawl into a whole,

for long after that my heart is sole.

Summer would come, days of bliss follow,

just to again find a soul hollow

the darkness of my mind in sorrow.

And so, that day would come again,

the day without a night, and night without a day.

And what seemed to be only one,

to its end there would be none…
