A cynical commentary on humanity and the ideal of hope. (Punctuation/grammar is accurate.)
what are we supposed to believe
when our gods become devils?
what are we supposed to be
when our saints become sinners?
lost hope,
so bittersweet.
man has lost himself just the same.
the search for morality
has come up empty.
God is god; just a name.
tiny footsteps mark our horizons.
alas; they tread on haunted grounds.
for as try as they might–
sin will be all that will be found.
when Hope is lost, the jar unturned,
how will we search for the light?
keep it inside you;
that tiny flame oh-so bright.
remember the days of pardon;
remember the days of light.
