Are you ever surprised by the unique status of a pet?
“Dazzled”
In the basement, he’s a wild animal.
In his bed, he’s a lazy dog.
But outside,
He’s a playful pooch.
A sight to see,
That dog chasing down tennis balls
Or beating his brother in a race.
I can always tell it’s him,
With his long, slender body
And the speed of a bullet.
I remember being dazzled by him
The day he joined our family.
Whining in the back seat
On the way home from Bear Mountain,
Skibo lay, wondering where fate would take him.
He ended up in a place
That I call home.
He joined our family the day I turned 6.
Always petting him,
He made ME an instant favorite.
He was MY favorite too.
I’m not as fast as him,
Or fun,
Or crazy,
Or exciting,
But I am as playful as him,
And that’s why he dazzles me.
Because we were meant to be together.
