Dear mom, I don’t know how to start this

All I know is that these lines will probably be my hardest

I know I was a surprise

But how did you feel the first time you looked into my eyes?

First, let me say thank you for giving birth

You gave me an opportunity to walk this earth

Even though things didn’t work out between you and dad

You are the only biological mother I’ll ever have

I don’t know why you turned to the dope

Maybe it was your way of trying to cope

It must have been hard being a single mother

You had to raise me and my two brothers

But I hope it was all worth it

I know I sound angry, but you deserve it

You would put us to bed

Then off into the streets you would head

I only saw you as my momma

I didn’t know the behind the scenes drama

We left with our dad early that summer but never returned

That should’ve been your wake-up call but you still didn’t learn

He told you we could come back home

All you had to do was leave that stuff alone

Then you went and robbed that bank

I was in shock and didn’t know what to think

Now because of your crime

You missed out on some special times

Because of your incarceration

You weren’t even at my high school graduation

You had 3 boys who became grown men

They have kids they hope turn out as good as them

You have 7 grandkids and 1 on the way

Have ever attended a single birthday?

It would be nice to have you on the scene

But only if it’s for the good of the team

I don’t know if you are clean or using

Your behavior is so confusing

You’ve deceived many people

You’ve had a reoccurring role in a lot of sequels

Your performances are always convincing

You could’ve won an Oscar for the life you were living

But now that I’m older

I have become less colder

I want you to know the fires still smolder

I lay awake some nights in my bed

Sometimes, I don’t know if you are alive or dead

I say a prayer for you every night

Hoping one of these days you’ll get it right

Know this because you are my mother I will always love you

Just please show your family that you love us too
