The plight of the real vampire is apparent in this piece about loneliness and the need to seek out one’s own kind.

Have you ever awoken to find

You were dead inside

Adrift

In a sea of life

Wishing for but a sip of such bounty

Yet having no means to partake

Parched lips, unable to drink

A heavy yolk that’s yours alone

To whom else could you turn?

But those that float beside you

Also adrift

Clasping your hand with theirs

Together

We are not alone

This yolk not to burdensome

Together

We can learn

To survive

In the sea of life
