A poem that I wrote after losing a friend. It was meant to be a memory of them for me but the poem took on a life of its own.

Death, still and lifeless

You lie, broken and wounded

A shadow of your former self

A silent empty shell

No more will I hold you

Hear my name whispered on your lips

Feel the softness of your touch

You’re gone, buried by the well

Death, still and lifeless

I’ll cry, hot, endless tears

For the memory of you

And a secret I’ll never tell

To you, I’m pregnant

Life beating within

A baby, a boy

Your only son
