The strifes of the 1970’s.

The 1970’s had much turbulence

Kent state, Attica, wounded knee

An influx of serial killers and gas shortages

Disingenuous ambassadors, paranoid political figures augmenting disenchantment

Aborted assassinations, as a few unfortunate souls reached their breaking point and acted out of desperation

Plenty of ensigns placed in peril, causes by administration’s soft underbelly

Incarcerated prisoners took it upon themselves to rebel against the system they were condemned to, with a catastrophic outcome

A campus riddled with teargas and the blood of youth

Tribal conflict left a reservation devastated

The American method was at a crisis

At the bottom end of the decade the bicentennial was upon the nation

A sense of duty and patriotism raised awareness and spirit at a crucial time

Redirecting many from the many shocking and traumatizing events of the last few years

Yes, the 1970’s has its positive moments

However, it’s difficult to forget the bloodshed and rubble that occurred in this decade of disturbances

Hey there! I’m going to review your piece entitled “Decade of Disturbances.” My opinions are only that, so please take them as such.

I thought this read more like an article than a poem. Yes, I understand the topic is past current events, but it sortof comes across as a list of sorts, without many of the authors opinions. Perhaps if you were to add some emotion…like in the line beginning “Tribal conflict…” you could make it: “Tribal conflict left a reservation devastated; baby cried while uncle and father pounded chests.” I don’t know. A line like that could tap the heartstrings, but at the same time it may make it rather long. What about: “Serial killers, one after another. No gas to escape.”? Kindof puts you in an eery movie, I think.

Anyway, I hope this helps, and does not offend. I think it was a great idea for a poem. :o )
