Do authors mean to symbolize, to analyze, to criticize? Do we write what we write because we consciously add it, or is something in our subconscious working behind the lines? Sometimes, a poem is just a poem, and there’s no hidden meaning.

So much depends
On diction, and cliched repetition
Pretentious writers who write in a juvenile fashion
To “ooh and “ahh” the lovers of connotation
Beside Sandra Cisneros.
Don’t analyze color, don’t analyze words.
Colors aren’t ours to regulate.
Perverting them is blasphemy, because they aren’t ours.
The sky is blue, and so what?
If the sky sometimes spits down rain and fire,
should a blue one eternally symbolize tranquility?
I assure you, the sky is always blue.
Don’t be banal, don’t judge my heart.
This poem is for me, so interpret what you want, but I don’t care,
Unless you say it means something that isn’t here.
Otherwise, you aren’t my responsibility.
