What he has to do and how he does it without thinking of his own safety.

He’s the hero that i married he’s the man who’s always there
He’s the one that pulls you from the flames when no one else will dare
Through the raging flames he battles to rescue who he can
No matter if your friend or foe or animal or man
They never think of running they never stop to say
I cant go in i’m frightened they never turn away
It isn’t only fires it’s floods and rescued cats
And bungalows and houses and the huge enormouse flats
So if your thinking thats for me they always need a hand
Just go down to your station and join the merry band

Great poem! Firefighters certainly deserve our gratitude.

Do firefighters in the UK still rescue cats from trees? We had a kitten up a tree a while ago, and my daughter insisted that we call the firestation. I told her ‘no – real firefighters don’t do that.” She was very upset and accused me of not loving the cat. While I was getting the ladder, she called the firestation. They told her that they don’t do that, and that the cat will come down when she is ready.

    We got her down ourselves.
