Depressants are addictive and some persons have to use more and more to satisfy their needs.

One set of psychoactive drugs

Are depressants

That include alcohol, nicotine

And heroin

- – -

Having three beers

Can have the effect

Of dilating the pupils

Slow a person’s response

Time while impairing

His motor skills

- – -

Alcohol is known

For loosening up

An individual

He becomes uninhibited

Too much booze

May cause him to become

Aggressive and violent

- – -

Nicotine if used

In massive doses

May cause death

Resulting

In a person developing

A bad heart

And a weak pulse

- – -

It’s known

To have a calming effect

On an individual

But it’s also responsible

For many deaths

From lung cancer

- – -

Heroin is derived

From the juice

Of the poppy seed

Large quantities come

From Afghanistan

It’s sniffed

Or injected

- – -

A person on heroin

Isn’t as sensitive

To pain

Doesn’t feel hungry

And notices a depression

In his respiration

An overdose of heroin

Is lethal

- – -

Heroin provides

A “rush”

Makes a person forget

His troubles

He becomes drowsy

And has no desire for sex

- – -

A person can become

Psychologically addictive

To these drugs

Which means

That their body

Becomes dependent

On them

- – -

It causes them to use

More and more quantities

To be satisfied

A very poignant story about the horrible effects that these dangerous psychoactive “products” can control and destroy. Nasty stuff…

Terrible drugs. Yet, people start using them everyday. Makes me wonder why people think that something that is so horrible to one person won’t do the same to them. Maybe our drug awareness campaigns are ineffective.

Great! I never saw a drug that was illegal before, so it was interesting to view the picture.
I just wanted to remind you that more and more teens are dying of taking their parents or friends prescription medication. I read a story in Ellery Queen magazine a few months ago and when some teens get together they raid their parents medicine cabinet put the pills in a bowl and grab handfuls of them to take even though they have no idea what the pill is. And they take them by the handful, too.
    Your poem was excellent

Drugs and alcohol have one thing in common…..to kill people little by little. Love your poems.
