A short poem about the supposed need to use steroids to increase performance and fame.
While rounding the bases,
You glance to the fence.
The ball soaring over,
You see with a glimpse.
Two strikes you had,
With two outs on top,
The pressure was heavy,
Till you took your chop.
The game is now over,
The battle is won.
You cross home plate,
To your teammates you run.
You did it for them,
For the city and team,
A hero you are,
Oh so it may seem.
With a prick and a push,
Your muscles they ripple,
But at what cost?
This just for a triple?
Damaging your body,
You ruin the game.
All for some lime-light,
And a little more fame?
The sport is beautiful,
I tell you the truth.
Just look to the past,
At Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth.
They did it with beer,
A few hot dogs and seeds.
A needle and drugs,
Weren’t part of their needs.
