A poem that will change your perception of human relationships.
In a corridor I chance upon an angelic face
It never crosses my mind
that in her simplicity
she could be an authority
She smiles sweetly and sincerely
Her sincerity radiates in her innocent face
Though her face is marred by time a bit
Her beauty inside and out overwhelms her age
As days pass by, I come to know her more
She becomes my boss
I must admit; I envy her looks and her wits
I may not be her favorite; yet I feel her warmth
One time, I get surprised – the very first time
She speaks to me and asks, “How are you?”
“I’m done with my post graduate,” I remark.
She smiles at me and says, “Congratulations!
I’m happy for you.”
Her words of appreciation reverberate
Like a peal of thunder echoing
Seemingly announcing
to the whole world my success
as if she’s my Mom,
feeling the achievement of her daughter.
That very brief encounter reminds me
I too must be generous not materially may be
But on things beyond our eyes can see
Simple words of appreciation is apt can be
With this reflection, I pledge with utmost sincerity
I too must be vocal, saying words of love
To cause people to smile and see life’s brighter side.
