Diabetes.

For the last 15 years I had one companion,

Diabetes had intensely done union,

I consulted the doctor and took medicines,

From my diet I left potato, carrot, beans.

I also reduced rice, chapattis, bread,

I did morning walk and walked before going to bed,

Yet my companion had remained a friend,

I fed others with carbohydrates, but diabetes had no end.

I got my sisters married in respectable families,

I got my father and mother treated during sickness,

I got my child educated who is established now,

I provided character certificates to neighbors who got jobs now.

Some had stayed with me, others left,

My white hair stayed with me, the black ones left,

My wrinkles in the skin grew, while the shine left,

Strangely diabetes stayed with me, while good health left.

Majority of population in India suffer from diabetes, especially after they cross the age of 50 years. May be extra stress in life or profession in urbanized cities is the major cause of diabetes. Once the disease is detected, the patients should live a restraint life and eat starch or carbohydrate free food.
