We saw a van advertising this service. The mind boggles.

We went into town this morning.

We enjoy the scenic bus ride.

A group of us oldies travel together,

And chat about problems world wide.

Today as we gazed out of the window,

We couldn’t believe what we saw on the road.

A van with the words “Dial a Hubby”

On the side made us all just explode.

The laughter that rang round the bus

Was like nothing I had heard before.

The old ladies all wanted the phone number,

While the old men continued to roar

It set our imaginations rolling,

So many chores the ladies wanted done,

Decorating, housework and gardening,

While the naughty men wanted some fun.

Their idea of being a “hubby”

Was not quite what us girls had in mind.

They preened themselves and slicked back their few hairs

And tried hard to look handsome and refined.

A clip round the ear put them right

And they all looked suitably subdued,

But the twinkling eyes didn’t have me fooled,

They were certainly in a playful mood.

That was the most unusual bus ride ever.

The driver must have thought us insane.

But it brightened up an otherwise tedious day

And made us feel young once again.

I suggested to a friend once that we swap hubbies for home repair projects – I think that the hubbies thought something else – but I’ve noticed that when they are helping each other with projects, the projects actually get done!
