Digging for Words
There is a bottomless pit
filled with words
that could fill our tanks
and fuel the fire
to put our pens in motion.
Words and phrases
clinging to each other,
strung like a strand
of popcorn and cranberries
wrapped around a tree.
Waiting to get eaten
by our minds and our brains
that soak up thoughts
like a porous sponge
awaiting a day
to type our hearts away
and our silent songs
to be sung.
An authentic craft
that wants to finalize
into a work of art.
Yet here we are digging, digging, digging
and grasping at straws.
For a word that
has clung to something else
that we can’t see.
For writers block
has sold itself to the devil
and we are captive to its whim.
Help me dig myself out of here.
I’m holding a word in my hand
yet, I am powerless to climb
out of the well.
