A poem about the perils of society.
The stage calls out from the darkness,
But no one answers.
The track begs for runners,
But none can be found.
The planes sit on the airfields,
No pilots or passengers willing to take them.
The printing presses stand abandoned,
No one writing, leaving the world blind.
The football stadiums, the soccer fields, and the baseball diamonds
All stand still and are silent.
The ice rinks across the world
Cry out for pucks and skates.
The amusement parks and swimming pools are
All without children who play.
The air is still, silent, and heavy.
From the distance, beyond the open fields,
The dark wilderness,
The steel and concrete walls,
Comes the tapping of keys
And the status bars reading:
