Child explains why he is no longer scared of dinosaurs, and teaches grandpa a thing or two in the process.
Grandpa, my grandson said with pride, I’m not scared of dinosaurs any more
Oh, I said, but they have such giant teeth they’d gobble you in a single bite
I guess you’re right, he said, but I can run really fast, they’d never catch me
But what about those flying ones, they’d swoop right down and grab you
Then I’d hide behind some rocks so they couldn’t see me any more
You’re brave, I said, but what of creepy crawly things that hide among the rocks
I’d squash them all like bugs, and maybe cook them up for lunch
But those beasts with legs the size of trees, they might squash you too, I said
Oh, they’re too dumb, they had brains as small as peas, I’d outsmart them all
I’m faster, braver, and smarter than all of those things, that’s why I am not afraid
And I think they’re funny too, the little boy said, with that certain kind of smile
The kind that tells you that they’ve learned something new they want to share
An insight proper to their age, wisdom gleaned from older kids no doubt
Did you know their poop was big as mountains, their farts could blow you over
And their pee could make a river, bet you didn’t know that, did you, grandpa
