America is prosperous, generous, helpful… yet it is nothing like it should be. A deep take on America written in the format of a Dirge.

Dirge of America

The land of opportunity in disarray,

That once commanded so much respect,

I mourn Franklin Roosevelt that passed away,

His death a deep regret.

It seems such a shame to me,

That we have lost our worth in foreign eyes,

It’s really so depressing to see,

The number of insurgents on the rise.

All the great leaders of the past,

Who led America to its prosperity,

Would wonder why it didn’t last,

Would ponder its irregularity.

Had they not sacrificed their lives,

Had they not imagined more,

Had they not created a land that revives,

Would we have lasted that fourscore?

I long for America of old,

For all its endurance and patriotism,

I wish to abolish the greed for black gold,

The blood of the world that has created such a schism.
