So…The insurance wrote an estimate. The construction company wrote a counter-estimate. And my house is unsafe to live in. But life still has to go on.
Packing up from another motel room
I remember why it was I bought a home.
Free breakfast came with juice and waffles
The eggs are hardboiled — what a groan.
Lumpy beds, hard beds, sometimes beds just right.
Sing hosannas when the guests
Have free access to a pool.
Packing up from another motel room
Searching my suitcase for clean underwear
If it doesn’t rain, I might camp out…
I know a campground with showers there.
I can find a laudromat just most anywhere
When I get some time, I know what I’d better do
Get myself over there and wash a load or two.
First and last months deposits…
Can you lease six months or a year?
Don’t bring animals to our establishment.
We run a clean place around here.
Don’t even think of buying new
My credit broke with the giant tree…
But cash will get another motel room.
It takes four DMS articles to rent a room
With just the basic walls and a tub
A bed with clean sheets and some towels
A generic room within which to sleep.
Two more articles will buy meals at McDonalds
And a table with internet for free.
My pets are boarded out with family
My library sits in storage now
My fingers will still type,
I’ve work that will pays as well
I can rent a roof most anyplace
That I can find a motel.
