A poem about love, paths, and obstacles…

The faces, they blended, one by one,
Until they all looked the same,
But still my eyes fought to capture
As I played this finder’s game.
Like a hazy oasis for a thirsty heart,
Your image appeared in unlikely way,
From a distance, your still-frame called,
And your quenching interest made me stay.
I felt a warmth with you I thought was lost,
But I knew there were details yet to seal.
And the waves crashed and the wind whispered…
That this could be something real..
Then, there came the Stop before the Go,
And your greeting would also be our close,
As I revisited love’s uncertain steps
As the warmest sand beneath our toes.
Each mile I drove became an obstacle
As I felt your inevitable withdrawal,
Like the ocean pulling into itself,
And the tears afraid to fall.
Mounted feelings like the tide rushing in,
Now engulf my once-parched quest,
As I still float unanchored in your arms,
And salty water stains my cheeks at rest.
I’m saddened that distance separates us,
But thankful that our paths led us to that pier,
And I leave you with the sweetest of kisses,
And an invitation that is always near.
