This poem is entirely inspired by people who attack each other based on their political beliefs. I wrote this during the elections when arguments were heated, and slander was all the rage. I refuse to take a side and stand by it to slam another, and that’s what this poem is about.

Follow your path until it ends,

mute your ideas so we can be friends,

no more division no more civil war,

go back to the way that it was before.

I don’t want some word fueled divider,

some smear of empty disrespect,

I won’t stand up to be an insider,

on the push-pull sway that I’ll reject.

For time after time we run bayonets through each other,

we bleed for the dreams that we’ve shoved asunder,

when all that matters is the fire of the fight,

though both sides are so God damn sure they’re right.

Life must be a symphony,

of spite spitting sirens of sympathy,

and the turmoil that boils until it boils to the point,

glorious battle scars for medics to anoint.

And we’ll shoot bullets,

and we’ll clash swords,

we’ll cut the opposition,

with the power of words,

we’ll drink up our arrogance,

we’ll forget we’re the same,

we’ll divide until we’re broken,

give the enemies a name,

and when it’s all over,

when the smoke calms and clears,

no one was right,

and so it appears,

that this was over nothing,

and you said it was for peace,

but you shed all the blood here,

now is your mind at ease?

I don’t want some word fueled divider,

some smear of empty disrespect,

when it’s all said and done,

I hope you still feel you’re correct.
