A humorous and loving look at a South Mississippi Dad.
I’m a deep south Dixie Dad
With the redneck southern blues
I’m redneck southern bad
And I’ve paid my share a’ dues
I got a sweet little southern belle
And a couple a’ redneck sons
We’re likely to raise some Hell
Just for a little fun
Got a shotgun over the door
And my fishin’ poles in the truck
The boys have one or two more
For the big one with a bit a’ luck
Got my football on the TV in the den
Where I watched the Sunday game
To miss the super-bowl would be a sin
More than cursin’ God’s Holy name
Got my Bible on the bookshelf
Still brand new in the wrap
I feel right proud a’ myself
Cause in church I take off my cap
I snooze while it’s time for the preachin’
Never think about it much
Till I’m woke up by the screamin’
That Hell’s gates I’m “bout to bust
My wife”s a noddin’ her head
With tears streamin’ down her face
And I wonder what the preacher said
I feel like such a disgrace
The piana music starts to play
And the choir begins to sing
I think I’m doin’ OK
Till he says one more thing
He said, “Life’s short and sweet
So you better be prepared,
Cause someday the Lord you’ll meet.”
Then suddenly I got real scared
My heart began to pound
And my armpits started to sweat
I knew Hell was where I’s bound
And my heart was full a’ regret
I made my way up the aisle
To accept Jesus as my Lord
Now I’ve changed my southern style
To follow His Holy Word
