We are commanded to observe the Lord’s death until he come.
Twelve men sat in the upper room, in quiet recollection,
Of what the Lord said He must do, that He must go and die.
For God commanded they should do this act just in reflection,
Of what he came to eath to do, and then return on High!
For the very reason that He came was to pay for our redemption.
He came to earth, to be born a babe, to suffer and bleed and die.
For all of us were born in sin, and none could claim exemption,
But we can be made righteous, who on HIm believe, rely!
So, he would meet again with friends, to give this revelation,
That He must die and rise again, and from them must go away.
But asks that we continue this observance, contemplation,
And would repeat the practice till our Lord’s returning day!
It was a time of secrecy, nobody but the twelve there.
Some would be first in prominence, and this created strife.
But Christ did take a towel and serve; oh, there was none of self there!
For he who would be first in Heaven, he must be last in life!
Please wash my head, and wash my hands, and not my feet alone,
But Jesus said he needed only wash his follower’s feet.
For he whose feet were washed, it meant the cleansing work was done,
Though some would try to add to the work, Christ said it was complete!
And if Christ would wash his follower’s feet, and this example leave us,
We only should be happy when we’re serving other men!
For He will come back some glad day, and to Himself receive us.
Oh, may we hear a sweet well done, when we shall see Him then!
For truly that is why we’re left, that we may be here serving
Those who would need a helping hand along their weary way.
And though we may be called to aid those we deem undeserving,
The Lord will righteously judge each act, on that great reckoning day!
