A non-serious poem entitled “Do Not”.

Do not read my words,
if you think they are about you.
Do not take it to heart,
if disagreement is what you find.

Do not take it for granted,
that this is written about you.
Do not blame me,
if you think that this is unkind.

Do not come and tell me,
if you think that this is rude.
Do not think you have the right,
to tell me I am wrong.

Do not make the same mistakes,
that others have made before.
Do not think you will win the game,
because I can prove I am strong.

Do not underestimate,
the power these words can have.
Do not think they are meant for you,
they are meant for another.

Do not question who they are for,
I will never reveal that answer.
Do not question the motives,
there is no need to bother.

Makes me think of the song “I bet you think this song is about you” by the screaming jets. Fun read!

  • Alistair Briggs on May 3, 2009

Now this was an interesting piece to read, nwever seen any other poet use the word non-serious before.

  • Mrs. Turaz on May 3, 2009

I think someone wants to mislay the object there.

  • Karen Gross on May 3, 2009

My first thought was also the Carly Simon song. I would also like to know your definition of non-serious. Is that a legal term to keep you from getting sued by paranoid readers like BoJack when he finds out that the poem really was about him? (Sorry Bo – you are just such an easy target!)
