Dolls are popular toys with children

That were invented by them

From sticks, stones, and skins

Way back from the Egyptian, Greek

And Roman times

Dolls evolved through the ages

Much to the delight of many

That collect them 

Some of which have

Become antiques

In the West, they’re used 

In religious observances

Especially at Christmas

With Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus

Lying in a manger

In most cultures, dolls

Are treated as though

They are living beings

Some walk, dance, are fed

Others are dressed 

For special occasions

That occur

Throughout the day

Week, month, and year

Some dolls show they’re happy

When they laugh

Or sad when they cry

Dolls represent

Continents, nations and  regions

In parts of Africa, dolls are seen

As having magical qualities

That some Africans say

Influence the lives of the living

For good or evil

Most in the West are familiar

With dolls that are not only babies

But teenagers and adults

And are treated as such

Many dolls that are blonds or brunettes

Are designed by Mattel 

And in the 1980s, cabbage dolls
